I WILL, I WON’T , I WANT the power of 3 heads
Our willpower is actually divided in three: ‘I WILL’, ‘I WON’T’ and ‘I WANT’.
But all these parts help us to be ourselves, to become better and bring benefits to our development even if we don’t realize it. It is just a matter of knowing when and how do we use them in our favor.
Because willpower is like a muscle, needs training and relaxation in order to become more effective.
I’d like to share with you some tips to “fit” the muscle of willpower.
Tips to get stronger the three parts of willpower:
1. Strengthen “I won’t” power
Example: Commit to not swearing, not crossing your legs when you sit, not biting your nails, using non-dominant hand for a daily task like eating or opening doors.
2. Strengthen ‘I will’ power
Example: Commit to doing something everyday (new, not something that you already do) just for the practice of building a new habit and not excuses.
3. Strengthen Self-Monitoring
Keep tracking of something that you don’t usually pay attention to. This could be your spending, the time spent watching TV, eating, Facebook, playing games online.
For any of these exercises you could chose something related to your main willpower challenge or your bigger goal. If your goal is to exercise more often, you might decide to do 10 sit-ups or push-ups before your morning shower. But even if you don’t match this experiment to your biggest goals, the muscle model of self-control suggests that exercising your willpower each day, even in silly or simple ways, will build strength for all your willpower challenge.
